Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has travelled to Iran on a two-day official visit amid the continuing conflict with the United States.
He was welcomed by Iran’s finance minister, Ali Madinezadeh, on arriving in Tehran on Thursday, July 23. The Iraqi prime minister later held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Iraqi government spokesman Haider Abboud said al-Zaidi had gone to Tehran at the Iranian president’s invitation.
During the visit, al-Zaidi will discuss reducing tensions and establishing peace in the region, as well as several areas of commercial cooperation including gas imports from Iran, the spokesman said.
