Saudi Arabia’s National Center for Meteorology (NCM) has issued a “red alert” for Mecca. The agency has forecast heavy rainfall in various parts of the city.
A notice issued by Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense said extreme adverse weather is anticipated in the region.
It called on residents to exercise caution during the expected severe weather and to follow safety guidance issued by the relevant authorities.
Civil Defense further said everyone should stay away from waterlogged areas, valleys and the vicinity of dams for their own safety.
The NCM’s “red alert” is its highest level of weather warning, issued when conditions requiring extreme caution are anticipated.
Unstable weather has prevailed across various parts of Mecca province in recent days, with varying degrees of rainfall.
Earlier, on August 21, the NCM had issued a warning forecasting heavy rain in Al-Ardiyat and Al-Qunfudhah provinces, at the time also warning of gusty winds, hail, thunderstorms and possible flash flooding.
