The BGB has rescued a Bangladeshi girl from the border in Patgram upazila, Lalmonirhat, 12 years after she was trafficked to India. She was handed over to her father once her identity was confirmed.
Major A F M Julkar Nayeen, acting commanding officer of 51 BGB’s Rangpur Battalion, confirmed the information on Tuesday afternoon.
The rescued girl’s home is in Gosairhat upazila, Shariatpur district. She said a women-trafficking ring had taken her to India about 12 years ago and sold her in Bengaluru.
BGB and border sources said she was wandering in confusion in the Paikarpara border area of Panbari village in Patgram upazila at around 8:30pm on Sunday. When local people informed the Panbari BGB camp, BGB members rescued her. Her father was then called after contact was made using the identity and address she gave.
Her father and a member of the union council for her area came to the Panbari BGB camp on Tuesday morning and identified her. The BGB then handed her over to her father after the necessary verification.
Major A F M Julkar Nayeen said the girl, who had been in BGB custody, had been handed over to her father.
