Eleven Awami League-backed union council members join BNP

Eleven union parishad members previously backed by the Awami League from Ward No. 8 Ziarkandi Union Parishad in Titas upazila, Cumilla, have joined the BNP.

They joined the party Friday evening at the residence of Principal Md Selim Bhuiyan, MP for Cumilla-2 (Homna-Titas), in Homna, presenting him with the party’s sheaf-of-paddy symbol. All those who joined were reportedly previously associated with the politics of the now-banned Awami League.

Those who joined are: Ward 1 member Billal Molla, Ward 2’s Harunur Rashid, Ward 3’s Md Amir Hossain Gazi, Ward 4’s Ashraf Uddin, Ward 5’s Khurshid Alam, Ward 6’s Shah Ali, Ward 7’s Md Javed Hossain, Ward 8’s Munsur Ali, Ward 9’s Hannan Mia, and reserved-seat members Ripa Begum (Wards 1, 2, and 3) and Rozina Akter (Wards 7, 8, and 9).

Also present were Titas Upazila BNP President and Cumilla North District BNP Joint Convener Md Osman Gani Bhuiyan, Titas Upazila BNP General Secretary Md Mehedi Hasan Selim Bhuiyan, Joint General Secretary Md Selim Molla, and Titas Upazila Jubo Dal Joint Convener Md Nazrul Islam.

Following the induction, newly joined member Md Billal Molla wrote in a Facebook post: “From a distance, many of us often hold negative perceptions. MP Principal Selim Bhuiyan is truly a kind-hearted person. That’s why, today, after a courtesy meeting with all members of Ziarkandi Union Parishad, I joined BNP politics.”
