CHITTAGONG, Sept. 26 — After reports spread that the new vice chancellor could enter the campus late Friday night or at any time, protesting students locked the university’s main gate and took a firm position there from Friday night. They guarded the gate throughout the night.

From Saturday morning, students gathered at different points on campus and chanted protest slogans. Around 10 a.m., they began painting satirical graffiti and protest calligraphy on walls near key university squares, sculpture areas and academic buildings.

Protesters said the removal of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem only 56 days after he took office, without any logical reason, had disrupted the university’s overall stability and progress. They said the university would remain completely shut until the former vice chancellor was reinstated and that the newly appointed vice chancellor would not be allowed to enter campus under any circumstances.

Meanwhile, the CUET Teachers’ Association has called an all-out work stoppage since Friday in solidarity with the students’ ongoing movement. As a result, classes, examinations and administrative work at the university are fully suspended.
