The government has decided to observe a ‘Nazrul Year’ for one year to spread the creations, literary works and humanist philosophy of the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam more widely among the new generation.
The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification on the matter on Sunday, June 21. The notification said the period from May 25 this year to May 25 next year would be observed as ‘Nazrul Year.’
The notification, signed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, said the initiative had been taken to spread the national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s creations and philosophy among the new generation. According to the notification, the declaration of ‘Nazrul Year’ will take effect from May 25, 2026. Throughout this period, various programmes based on the poet’s life, work and philosophy will be undertaken, related sources said. Those concerned believe the government’s initiative will newly highlight the national poet’s literary and cultural contribution while creating an opportunity to acquaint the younger generation with his humanist and rebellious spirit.
