National poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s anniversary observed in Gangni

The anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was observed in Gangni, Meherpur, with a discussion meeting and cultural program.

The event was organized by Gangni upazila administration on Thursday morning and chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Anwar Hosen.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman joined virtually as the chief guest, addressing the program simultaneously across the country via video conference. He called on everyone to work together to build a society free of discrimination by embracing Kazi Nazrul Islam’s ideals of equality, humanity, patriotism, and non-sectarian consciousness.

Guests at the event included Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Motiur Rahman, Upazila BNP general secretary and former chairman Abdul Awal, and NCP leader Sobuj Rana. Officials from various government and non-government offices, journalists, cultural figures, and distinguished citizens also attended.

Speakers said Kazi Nazrul Islam’s literature, music, and philosophy continue to inspire the Bengali people toward equality, justice, humanity, and resistance against injustice. They called on the younger generation to study his life, work, and creations, and to cultivate his ideals through regular reading of his literature, poetry recitation, and practice of Nazrul songs.
