Police have arrested a robber named Rakibul Hasan Rakib, 19, over the robbery of an easy-bike in Dhunat upazila, Bogura, in which the driver was hacked.
He was arrested at around 9:30pm on Monday (September 21) from the Ramnagar Badir Mor area of Kalerpara union in the upazila.
Rakibul Hasan Rakib is the son of Abdullah Sarkar of Ghoradour Sarkarpara village in Khamarkandi union, Sherpur upazila.
Police and local sources said three young men posing as passengers hired the vehicle of an easy-bike driver named Joy from Dhunat bazar at around 7:30pm on Saturday (September 19). At around 8pm, when they reached a point on the paved road about 300 yards south of Dhunat police station, they told the driver to stop.
After the easy-bike stopped, the three men tied the driver Joy’s mouth with a gamchha. They then hacked him indiscriminately about the head and other parts of the body with a sharp weapon. The three men left Joy seriously injured on the road and fled with his easy-bike.
Local people later rescued Joy, who was lying injured at the roadside, and took him to Dhunat Upazila Health Complex. The injured driver’s family lodged a written complaint at Dhunat police station over the incident.
Dhunat police station’s officer-in-charge, Atikul Islam, said Rakibul Hasan Rakib had been arrested on allegations of involvement in the easy-bike robbery. He was sent to court in Bogura on Tuesday (September 22) morning and sent to jail through the court.
