Police have recovered the hanging body of a truck driver, Mamun Hossain Antar, 31, in Jibannagar, Chuadanga, five days after he went missing.
The body was recovered at midday on Tuesday (September 22) from a mango tree behind the sugarcane centre in Uthali village in the upazila.
Mamun was the son of Ansar Ali of that village. He had been missing for several days.
Local people informed police after seeing Mamun’s hanging body at midday. Police then reached the scene and recovered the body.
Mamun, a truck driver by profession, had been mentally unwell for some time. He would leave his family and wander from place to place. He had not been seen in the area for several days. It is thought that he took his own life. As the body had decomposed, he could not be identified by sight, but it was confirmed to be Mamun from the clothes he was wearing.
Jibannagar police station’s officer-in-charge, Solaiman Sheikh, said: “On receiving news of a body hanging there, I reached the scene quickly with accompanying officers. The body has been recovered and sent to the morgue at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Further legal steps are under way.”
