The president of the Rajshahi University (RU) unit of Chhatra Dal, Sultan Ahmed Rahi, has announced a reward of 10,000 taka for handing over leaders and activists of the banned Chhatra League.

On Monday (June 22), a protest and resistance march was brought out at 1 p.m. from the university’s Intellectuals’ Square in protest against various threats, anarchy and instability allegedly being created by the Awami League, whose activities are banned across the country. He made the announcement in a speech after the march.

At the event, activists branded the Awami League a banned outfit and warned that all its activities would be sternly suppressed. The senior vice-president of the unit Chhatra Dal, Shakilur Rahman Sohag, said: ‘During the Sheikh Hasina government, the people of Bangladesh were subjected to killings, enforced disappearances, torture and attacks. Against that backdrop, the people of Bangladesh no longer want to see Awami League politics.’

He further said: ‘If those who were involved in Chhatra League politics in the past try in any way to rehabilitate or bring back the Awami League, the country’s pro-democracy people will not accept it. The Bangladesh Nationalist Chhatra Dal will build democratic resistance against any undemocratic and anti-people attempt, in line with its political ideals and leadership.’

The RU unit Chhatra Dal president, Sultan Ahmed Rahi, said: ‘The autocrats who stripped away the rights of the people of Bangladesh and carried out killings, disappearances and murders will not be allowed to remain on the soil of Bangladesh. We must guard every inch of the university. We have to stay alert so that the Chhatra League cannot create any instability in Bangladesh or at the university.’ He said: ‘A reward of 10,000 taka will be given for openly handing over Chhatra League leaders and activists. The Awami League will conspire to destabilise various parts of the country from the 23rd. To counter them, we will have to take up position at various points in Rajshahi from after the Fajr prayers.’
