CHUADANGA — Chuadanga district has set a target of 30,842 tonnes of mango production this season and will begin collecting fruit on May 13, the district administration said after a tripartite meeting Sunday.

The schedule was finalized at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the deputy commissioner’s conference room. District administration officials, the agriculture department, orchard owners and traders attended.

Speakers included Masudur Rahman Sarker, deputy director of the extension department; Mithu Chandra Adhikari, additional deputy director for plant protection; Krishna Ray, additional deputy director for crops; Abdul Kuddus Mahaldar, president of the Chuadanga district mango traders’ association; Shahidul Islam, field and market inspector for district agricultural marketing; Mamunul Hasan, assistant director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department; and Anisur Rahman, sadar upazila agriculture officer.

According to the agricultural extension department, mangoes are cultivated on 2,203 hectares in the district this year.

Under the schedule, atti, guti, bombai, kheershapati and gopalbhog varieties will be collected starting May 13; himsagar from May 20; langra from May 25; amrapali (BARI Mango-3) from June 5; fazli from June 15; haribhanga from June 20; banana from June 22; ashwina (BARI Mango-4) from June 30; and katimon and gourmoti (BARI Mango-12) from July 5.
