The government has given in-principle approval to a proposal for an international terminal operator to run the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) at Chattogram port for 15 years.
The approval was given at a meeting of the cabinet committee on economic affairs on Thursday (October 1), under the public-private partnership (PPP) project “Operation and Maintenance of CPA’s New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) including Overflow Yard (OCY)”.
The shipping ministry presented the committee with a proposed draft concession agreement with an international terminal operator to run the terminal for 15 years.
Chattogram is the country’s main seaport, and the New Mooring Container Terminal is one of its most important container-handling facilities. Under the new agreement, the operation and maintenance of the terminal will be handed to an international operator.
