Teenager found hanging in abandoned rice mill in Gopalganj

Police have recovered the body of an 18-year-old named Imam Reza, found hanging in an abandoned rice mill in the Ulpur area of Gopalganj Sadar upazila. Police say there were marks of injury and bloodstains on his body, but it is not yet clear whether it was murder or suicide. The body has been sent to the morgue for post-mortem and police have begun an investigation.

According to police and local sources, Imam Reza was the son of Jahirul Mridha of Barishal district. He lived with his mother at his maternal uncle’s home in Ulpur Purbapara village and worked at a sari shop in Gopalganj town.

On Wednesday morning, local people found his body tied by a belt to the window of a room in an abandoned rice mill in Ulpur. A team from Boultali police investigation centre went to the scene and recovered it.

Police said there were marks of injury and bloodstains on various parts of his body. The body was sent to the morgue of Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital, and the actual cause of death will be known after the post-mortem report.

His mother, Afi Begum, says Imam Reza was murdered and his body hung up. She said her son had been brutally killed and demanded a fair investigation, the swift arrest of those involved and exemplary punishment.

Police said they are investigating to establish the actual cause of death and identify anyone involved.
