Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, several ministers and thousands of Israelis entered the Western Wall plaza in occupied East Jerusalem under heavy security on Sunday. The Palestinian Jerusalem governorate gave the information.
Al Jazeera reported on September 20 that Hamas said in a statement on its Telegram channel that Netanyahu “entered the tunnels and excavation sites beneath the holy Al-Aqsa mosque and the Al-Buraq wall and made provocative remarks. This is a clear and shameless attack on the identity and standing of the holy site.”
Hamas said: “The whole of the Al-Aqsa mosque, including its courtyards, its places of prayer, its walls and its gates, will remain exclusively an Islamic mosque.”
The organisation added: “This is an established fact. The occupiers’ excavation, incursions, religious rituals and attempts to impose a biblical narrative will never be able to change the identity of this place. Nor will they succeed in erasing its historical remains.”
