The United States president, Donald Trump, had been spending a break at Camp David. He suddenly cut the stay short and returned unexpectedly to the White House. He had been due to return to Washington on Sunday under the announced schedule, but the administration gave no official reason for his sudden return on Saturday.

Analysts believe he shortened the stay because of the deteriorating situation in the Middle East. Dawn Online reported this, citing the news agency AFP.

Camp David is the president’s reserved retreat in rural Maryland. Early on Saturday the Saudi-led military coalition confirmed reports that Yemen’s Houthi rebels had fired a ballistic missile at the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

At the same time, the overall security situation in the Middle East took a new turn after a violent explosion and fire near the fuel tanks at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. Immediately afterwards the United States state department told American citizens in the region to remain on the highest alert. It was amid this heated regional instability that the United States president cancelled his weekend break and returned to Washington in haste.
