The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that if the United States attacks Iran again, Tehran will strike back at new targets. Speaking on a television programme on Sunday, the IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebi said that in the event of a fresh attack Tehran would change its weapons and the “geography of the war”.
Mohebi said that if there were any new attack, Iran’s defensive and offensive activity would change significantly. The weapons and the geography of the war would be changed, he said, and Iran would take the field with new capabilities and strengths. The world, he said, would be taken aback by it.
The spokesman said: “Our targets are no longer what they were. We have identified some new targets that have never been struck before.”
Mohebi also said: “Iran is ready for a long war. In our view a war has various phases; a war does not simply end, it carries on. The IRGC was ready for war beforehand and is now even more ready.”
He said the IRGC had made no contact with the United States and that Iran’s armed forces had not become involved in any diplomatic activity. Ensuring the country’s defence, he said, was the military’s principal aim.
His claim was that United States dominance in the region had come to an end, and that Iran, rather than Washington, was now shaping the region’s new arrangement.
