Bangladesh has won a bronze medal, a global championship and special international recognition at the 9th International Economics Olympiad (IEO) 2026, held in Shenzhen, China. Students from 57 countries took part in the competition, one of the world’s largest in economics, finance and business.

Farabid Bin Faisal won the bronze medal for the Bangladesh team. Zaif Bin Morshed became a global champion, finishing first in the inaugural “IEO Youth Talk” contest, judged on communication skills, critical thinking and leadership.

The International Economics Olympiad authorities gave the Bangladesh Economics Olympiad (BDEO) “special international recognition” for its sustained contribution to economics education, international participation and success — seen as a reflection of Bangladesh’s growing standing in global economics education.

The other team members were Fariha Tasnim of Manarat Dhaka International School and College (Gulshan branch), Pranto Ghosh of Mastermind English Medium School (Dhanmondi branch) and Faiyad Salehin Ahmed, a 12th-grade student at Scholastica.

The national team was formed through several rounds of selection nationwide from more than 48,000 registered students, including regional and national rounds, a national camp and a month-long advanced training program supervised by the country’s leading economists, academics, policymakers and business leaders.

The delegation was led by Md Al-Amin Parvez, a member of the International Economics Olympiad’s executive board and president of the BDEO’s executive committee. The organization’s secretary, Rafid Abrar, served as deputy team leader. BDEO ambassador Md Mansurul Haque and Md Al-Amin Parvez also served on the international judging panel for the business case competition.

Led by Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman — a former adviser to a Bangladesh caretaker government, chairman of BRAC and executive chairman of the PPRC — the Bangladesh Economics Olympiad works as a platform to raise economic and financial literacy and prepare talented students for international competition. BDEO 2026 was organized jointly by Pubali Bank PLC and BRAC Bank with support from City Bank.

Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman said the success reflects the potential of Bangladesh’s youth and strengthens the BDEO’s commitment to building future economists, policymakers, entrepreneurs and business leaders through world-class economics education.
