A passenger on an easy-bike was killed when a truck hit it in Ghior, Manikganj. Another person was injured.
The accident happened at about 9pm on Sunday, 18 October, in the Dotra area of the Barangail-Tangail regional highway.
The dead man, Raja Mia, 60, was the son of Monir Uddin of Kusta village in Ghior upazila. The injured woman, Nurjahan Begum, 45, is the wife of Majid Mia of Narchi village in the same upazila.
According to police, on Sunday night a truck heading from Daulatpur to Barangail hit the easy-bike, travelling in the same direction, hard from behind. Both passengers were seriously injured. Local people took them to Ghior Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared Raja Mia dead. Nurjahan Begum was sent to Manikganj Sadar Hospital for better treatment.
The truck driver fled after the accident, leaving the truck behind. Ghior police went to the scene and took the truck and the easy-bike into custody.
Ghior police station officer-in-charge Muhammad Mohabbat Kabir said the inquest report on the body was being prepared and the post-mortem process was under way, and further legal action was being taken.
