The home of a retired police officer in Mirsarai, Chattogram, has been robbed by a gang that held the whole family hostage at gunpoint.
It happened in the Sheikhertaluk area of Wahedpur union in the upazila, in the early hours of Saturday.
On being informed, Mirsarai police station officer-in-charge Farida Yasmin visited the scene that night.
The retired police officer, Matin Ullah, said a masked gang of 10 to 12 broke open the door with a digging bar at about 2:30am and held everyone at gunpoint. The robbers took goods and cash worth about Tk 17 lakh in all, including five bhori and eight annas of gold ornaments. A case is being prepared at the police station.
Bipul Karmakar, in charge of Nizampur police investigation centre, said: “The robbery took place at about 2:30am after Friday midnight. On being informed, the OC and we visited the scene. No case has been filed yet. Police are working to identify and arrest those involved.”
