SHIBALAYA, Manikganj — A bus belonging to Munnu International School and College was destroyed by fire in Shibalaya upazila of Manikganj. The incident occurred around 8 p.m. Sunday at Uthuli intersection of the upazila, where the bus was parked beside the Sarmano CNG and Filling Station.

Local sources said the fire broke out suddenly at the rear of the bus around 8 p.m. while it was parked at the pump. Station staff and locals initially tried to put out the flames but failed. The fire service was called and brought the blaze under control in about half an hour. By then, the bus had been completely destroyed.

Residents said several dump trucks parked nearby were not damaged in any way, leading many to believe the fire was set deliberately.

Habibur Rahman, a station worker, said: “I was filling CNG at the time. Suddenly I saw flames coming from the rear of the bus. We tried to put it out with water but couldn’t. The fire service later brought it under control.”

Bus driver Montu Mia said: “I left the bus at the pump in the afternoon and went home. On Saturday night, someone broke the rear glass of the bus and stole the LED TV and sound box. I had informed the owner. Tonight the bus burned. I don’t know what to say.”

Bus owner Siyam Ahamed said: “The bus is used to transport school students. The fire caused losses of about 400,000 taka. This is a Munnu International School and College bus. No other vehicle nearby was damaged — only mine. So it seems to be sabotage.”

Shibalaya Police Station officer-in-charge S.M. Aman Ullah said: “We have visited the scene. It is too early to say anything. The actual cause of the fire will be known after investigation.”
