MANIKGANJ — The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has expelled for life a union-level party leader who was caught in the act of engaging in immoral activity with the wife of an expatriate in Manikganj’s Sadar upazila.

The decision was announced Saturday through a press release signed by upazila BNP president Md. Sirajul Islam and general secretary Muhammad Anisur Rahman.

The expelled leader is Md. Sirajul Islam Munjel. He was the office secretary of the Dhamshar Union committee in Dauiatpur upazila. He was living in a rented house in Sadar upazila.

The press release said: “Based on specific allegations of violating party policy, principles and discipline and engaging in antisocial activities, Md. Sirajul Islam Munjel, office secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Manikganj district, Dauiatpur upazila Dhamshar Union branch, has been expelled for life from all positions, including primary membership.”

On Friday around 2 a.m., several villagers in Dhamshar Union of Dauiatpur upazila saw Sirajul Islam Munjel entering the home of a Saudi expatriate’s wife. Locals said Munjel had been engaged in an illicit relationship with the woman, and villagers had long whispered about it. Shortly after he entered, villagers caught him in the act, dragged him from the house and tied him to a tree.
