FARIDPUR — Joint forces raided an illegal firearms workshop in Faridpur’s Madhukhali upazila on Friday evening, seizing weapons and tools and detaining one man, police said.

The raid was conducted around 7 p.m. in Dumain village, led by the Madhukhali army camp’s 15 Riverine Engineer Battalion in coordination with local police.

The detained man was identified as Badal Sarkar, 52. A search of his home turned up a single-barrel pipe gun, one 12-gauge cartridge, 14 recoil springs, two hammers, a drill machine, pliers, a blower, a hacksaw and other weapons-making equipment.

Law-enforcement sources said complaints about firearms manufacturing and supply in Dumain had been received for a long time. Intelligence indicated that Sarkar regularly produced weapons at his workshop and supplied them to criminal elements in various parts of Faridpur, the sources said.

Sarkar faces multiple prior arms-related cases and had been under surveillance, the sources said. After the raid, he was handed over to Madhukhali police along with the seized weapons and equipment.

Madhukhali police filed a case under the Arms Control Act, with police as the complainant and Sarkar as the accused, Officer-in-Charge Faqir Taizur Rahman said. Sarkar would be sent to court on Saturday, he said.
