FARIDPUR — A government primary school in Sadarpur upazila has been closed for five consecutive days, sparking anger among parents. The Sateroshi Government Primary School, in Sater Roshi village of the Sadar Union, has remained closed for five days, according to local sources.

On Thursday (January 15) around 12 p.m., reporters found all classroom doors at the school padlocked. The campus was completely silent and empty of students. The continued closure has brought education at the school to a standstill.

Local parents complained that the school was shut for five days without any prior notice, disrupting the children’s education and harming their progress.

Head teacher Muhammad Shahidur Rahman said the school was temporarily closed because of the urs festival being held at the nearby Bishwa Zaker Manzil. He said the decision was made considering the heavy crowds and security concerns in the area during the festival.

He could not provide a clear answer on whether prior permission had been obtained from the education department to close the school.

Upazila Assistant Education Officer Hafizur Rahman said the school has 148 students. “We did not give anyone permission to close the school. After learning about this, I summoned the head teacher and asked for a written explanation of why the school was closed,” he said.

Civic groups said keeping a government educational institution closed for an extended period under the pretext of religious or social events is against regulations and seriously disrupts students’ education. They have urged authorities to investigate the matter and take necessary action against those responsible.
