Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) vice-president Sadik Kayem has demanded that a notice for recruiting non-government school teachers through the NTRCA be published this month, to tackle unemployment among educated young people.
He made the demand in a post on his Facebook page on Sunday. For three years, he wrote, there has been no circular for NTRCA teacher registration, the country’s biggest recruitment exam, even though in April the NTRCA itself listed 77,799 vacancies. Six months later there is still no notice, which keeps being held up on the excuse of administrative complications, while officials say one thing after another and decisions keep changing.
Citing a report in the IMF’s Finance & Development magazine published in September, he wrote that 36 of every 100 highly educated young people in Bangladesh are unemployed, yet the recruitment notice remains stuck. “A partisan government is wasting time experimenting with this recruitment, but candidates’ age does not stand still. Why should young people pay for your administrative failure and whimsical behaviour?” he wrote. “No more delays. We want the NTRCA recruitment notice in October.”
