SREENAGAR — Police have arrested a 22-year-old man on charges of luring a 5-year-old girl into a house and raping her in Sreenagar upazila of Munshiganj district, officers said.
The suspect, identified as Jisan, the son of Monir Hossain of Charigaon village, was detained after the assault, which took place Tuesday afternoon in Charigaon village of Birtara union.
Local residents said Jisan lured the 5-year-old into an empty house and raped her on Tuesday afternoon. The child’s screams brought neighbors, who detained him. The suspect’s father then used his influence to secure his release, residents said. Locals later informed police, and Sreenagar police arrested Jisan in a raid that night.
The child was first taken to the Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctor referred her to Mitford Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. She is now being treated at the One-Stop Crisis Center unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Sreenagar Police Inspector (Investigation) Milton Dutta said a case has been filed at the police station over the child rape. Jisan was sent to a Munshiganj court after his arrest.
