DINAJPUR — A 65-year-old sweets seller died after his wife struck him on the head with a wooden stool in Dinajpur’s Birampur upazila on Tuesday, police said.
The dead was identified as Hafizul Islam, 65, the son of the late Abdus Samad of Kuchiamor village in No. 4 Diwar Union, police said. He was a sweets vendor.
Hafizul’s wife, Rehena Begum, had asked him to buy her a sari for the Nabanno harvest festival, police said. The two argued over the request Tuesday morning. During the dispute, Rehena struck Hafizul on the head with the wooden stool she had been sitting on, police said. He collapsed at the scene. Locals took him to Birampur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead, police said.
Momtazul Haque, the officer in charge of Birampur Police Station, said the body was recovered and sent to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Rehena has been detained, he said.
