DINAJPUR — A 32-year-old man traveling to deliver Eid semai to his sister was killed in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and his motorcycle on the Dinajpur-Thakurgaon highway in Birganj early Friday, police said. Another man was injured in the crash.
The dead was identified as Md. Nur Islam, 32. Md. Royel Islam, 35, was injured, police said.
The crash occurred around 8 a.m. Friday, March 13, in front of the main gate of the Birganj Upazila Parishad office, police said.
Nur Islam was the son of Md. Rajab Ali of Thatharipara in South Jagatpur village of Biral upazila. Royel Islam was the son of Md. Mominul Islam of Mirzapur village in the same area, police said.
Nur Islam and his friend Royel Islam were traveling by motorcycle from Biral to their sister’s home in Domar to deliver Eid semai and sugar when their motorcycle collided with the passenger bus in front of the upazila office, local sources said. Nur Islam died at the scene, and Royel Islam was injured.
Harunur Rashid, an official with the Birganj Fire Service, said a team reached the scene after receiving the report. The team recovered the body and took the injured man to the Upazila Health Complex, he said.
Dr. Farhana, medical officer at the Upazila Health Complex, said Royel Islam had received initial treatment and that his injuries were not serious.
