SARISHABARI, Bangladesh — Police arrested an Indian national identified as Shukkur Ali, 25, on charges of illegally entering Bangladesh in Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur district, officials said.
According to police sources, Shukkur Ali was seen wandering around Bhatara Bazaar on Tuesday night. Suspicious residents alerted police, who arrived at the scene and detained him.
He speaks Hindi but can also manage some Bengali and English. Because his behavior appeared disoriented, he was first admitted to the upazila health complex. He was produced in court on Wednesday afternoon.
Shukkur identified himself as the son of Ohab Ullah of Anuputi village in Kailas town of India’s Tripura state.
Sarishabari police officer in charge Chand Mia said the man crossed into Bangladesh through the Sylhet border 14 to 15 days ago. With no valid documents on him, he was charged with illegal entry and produced in court, the officer said.
