DINAJPUR — Police recovered the bodies of two unidentified young men from the Kankra River in Chirirbandar upazila on Monday afternoon, officials said.
The bodies were pulled from the water near the Lakshmitala Bridge in the Baniyakhari area of Bhiail Union No. 9 in Chirirbandar upazila.
Police said locals spotted the bodies floating in the river and notified authorities. Officers responded Monday afternoon and recovered the remains. The men were wearing jackets, mufflers and caps, police said. Their identities had not been established.
Chirirbandar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Ahsan Habib, who was at the scene, said the bodies had been sent to the Dinajpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police were working to identify the men and determine the cause of death, he said.
Chirirbandar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahmudunnabi said preliminary indications suggested the bodies had been in the river for two to three days.
He said a Criminal Investigation Department team had joined station police at the scene to help identify the bodies. After inquest reports were prepared, the bodies were sent to the Dinajpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, he said.
