Parbatipur Awami League office reopens; 4 arrested

DINAJPUR — Police arrested four people Wednesday after a group reopened the long-abandoned Awami League upazila office in Parbatipur and resumed activities, officials said.

An organized group of people and some former Awami League members occupied the office on Wednesday afternoon and inaugurated its activities, chanting Joy Bangla slogans, witnesses said. They distributed sweets, witnesses added.

Police arrived and detained four men, taking them to the station, officials said. The arrested were identified as Dr. Sajjad Hossain; Akhtar Hossain, owner of Laji Boarding; Gouranga Kumar Roy; and Bablu Mia.

Faruk Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Parbatipur Model police station, said: “We responded to reports of an unruly gathering and arrested four people from the scene. They will be sent to court.”
