RAJARHAT, Kurigram — A clash between activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) over a Facebook post left a former Chhatra Dal leader seriously injured, police said.

The clash broke out around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, March 22, near the Tista Road railway gate in Rajarhat Bazar.

According to local sources, tension flared over a post on a Facebook page named “Silent Ashraful” targeting Chowdhury Rinku Rabben, convener of the NCP’s national youth wing in Rajarhat upazila. An argument first broke out between NCP and BNP supporters and quickly escalated into a clash, with chases and hand-to-hand fighting that spread panic in the area.

Locals rushed the injured man to Rajarhat upazila health complex, where he was being treated. He was identified as Ashraful Islam.

Law enforcement personnel took up positions at the scene and stepped up patrols to keep the situation under control.

Rajarhat thana Officer-in-Charge Mamunur Rashid said police reached the scene immediately after the clash and brought the situation under control. “The situation is now normal,” he said. “If a written complaint is filed, necessary legal action will be taken following an investigation.”
