BIRAMPUR, Bangladesh — A Dhaka-bound sleeper bus struck a parked sand-laden truck on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway in Birampur, killing two people and injuring at least six passengers, police said.
The crash happened around 6 a.m. Sunday, March 29, in the Chandipur area of Birampur on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway.
One of the dead was identified as Mosharraf Hossain Babu, son of Khabir Uddin from Sreenagar upazila in Munshiganj district. The identity of the other victim was not immediately known.
Birampur police station inspector (investigation) Ataur Rahman confirmed the crash.
Citing local accounts, police said the Heritage Sleeper Coach bus was traveling from Dinajpur to Dhaka with several passengers when it rammed a sand-laden truck parked on the side of the road in Chandipur. The driver’s assistant and one passenger were killed at the scene.
Rahman said police rushed to the scene after receiving word of the crash and recovered the bodies. He said efforts to identify the victims were underway and the injured were being treated at the Birampur Upazila Health Complex.
