FULPUR, Bangladesh — A mobile court in the Fulpur upazila of Mymensingh seized a large quantity of petrol and diesel during a raid on Saturday, March 28. The operation was led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Sadia Islam.

The raid resulted in the seizure of 19,500 liters of diesel and 4,500 liters of petrol. The mobile court fined Habibur Rahman, owner of Popi Traders, 200,000 taka after finding evidence that the fuel was being sold at retail without a license and at inflated prices.

The mobile court ordered that the seized petrol be sold at government-fixed prices and in government-fixed quantities.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the country is facing a fuel shortage. Taking advantage of the situation, the trader had been hoarding petrol illegally and selling it at retail without a license and at higher prices.

Sadia Islam Sima, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Fulpur, said such operations by the administration would continue. Mobile courts are being deployed across all areas to prevent anyone from profiting by creating an artificial fuel shortage, she said. The activities will continue, she said.
