DHAKA — Milestone School and College in the capital’s Uttara area will reopen Sunday, 12 days after a devastating fighter jet crash, school officials said.
The institution has been closed since the July 21 tragedy. A decision to reopen on July 27 was later reversed and the closure extended to allow time for mourning and counseling. No regular classes or exams will be held on the first day. A memorial program for those killed has been arranged as the first step toward restoring the academic environment. Students, teachers and families of the dead and wounded will attend.
Milestone School and College public relations officer Shah Bulbul said the memorial would be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Sunday. Tributes will be paid to those killed and prayers offered for the recovery of the wounded. Additional activities are planned with students’ physical and mental well-being in mind.
On July 21, a fighter jet crashed into a college building, killing and injuring many students and teachers. School authorities have since taken all necessary measures with student safety and well-being in mind. Special counseling sessions have been arranged for teachers and students.
