CHOUGACHHA, Jashore — Dr. Mosleh Uddin Farid presented a check for 200,000 taka Tuesday for the renovation and development of the Chougachha Upazila Press Club in Jashore.
The handover took place at a discussion meeting Tuesday afternoon at the club’s office, which is under construction.
The meeting was chaired by Chougachha Press Club President Principal Abu Jafar. The chief guest was Dr. Mosleh Uddin Farid, the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami parliamentary candidate for the Jashore-2 (Chougachha-Jhikargachha) constituency.
Speaking to reporters, Farid said: “Journalists are the conscience of the nation and the mirror of society. Through objective writing, they work for the welfare of the country and the people. By presenting accurate information at critical moments, journalists give ordinary people the opportunity to make sound decisions and keep the nation from being misled. Journalism must be carried out for the welfare of the country and its people. This noble profession must not be brought into disrepute under any circumstances.”
Responding to a question, he said that if elected he would “ensure equal rights for people of all religions and races” and would also ensure equitable distribution of government allocations between the two upazilas.
Asked another question, he said: “If Jamaat comes to state power, regardless of a person’s ideology, the government will ensure equal rights for all.” If elected, he said, he would work to eradicate drugs in the upazila and would also build cold-storage facilities for vegetables, a bus terminal and a stadium, develop the upazila health department and other basic infrastructure.
The meeting was conducted by Chougachha Press Club General Secretary Azizur Rahman. Other speakers included Chougachha Upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Golam Morshed, Naib-e-Ameer Maulana Nurul Islam, Secretary Maulana Nurujjaman, Assistant Secretary Master Kamal Ahmed and Maulana Giyas Uddin.
Also present were upazila Jamaat Baitul Mal Secretary Master Imdadul Haque; pourashava Jamaat Ameer Maulana Abdul Khaleq, Secretary Jillur Rahman, Joint General Secretary M.A. Rahim, Babul Akter, Organizing Secretary Shyamal Datta, Finance Secretary Asaduzzaman Mukto, Lecturer Azizur Rahman and Office Secretary Raihan Hossain; and journalists Abdul Quader, Shafiqul Islam, Kalimullah Siddiqui, Abu Hanif, Abdul Mannan, Azam Ashraful, Faisal, Zahid Hasan, Jahangir Alam, Fakhrul Islam and Mizanur Rahman, along with other Chougachha Press Club members.
After the discussion, Farid handed over the 200,000 taka check to the press club leaders.
