CHOUGACHHA, Jashore — Sports are essential to keeping the body and mind healthy, and there is no alternative to physical exercise for a normal, healthy life, said Dr. Mosleh Uddin Farid, a renowned pediatric cardiologist and the Jamaat-e-Islami parliamentary candidate for the Jashore-2 (Chougachha-Jhikargachha) constituency.
He made the remarks Saturday afternoon as chief guest at the prize-giving ceremony for the July Martyr Jabir-Al-Amin Memorial Football Tournament, held at Singhajhuli Secondary School ground in Chougachha’s Singhajhuli union.
“Through sports, a person attains physical and mental well-being and also develops fraternity, empathy and leadership qualities,” Farid said. “Sports keep the body healthy and the mind cheerful. That is why regular sports, exercise and participation in Islamic cultural activities are necessary.”
At the end of the program, Farid distributed prizes to players from the winning and runner-up teams of the eight-team union tournament.
Earlier the same day, a free medical camp organized by the same group was held in the morning at the local Alim Madrasa ground. Farid, the chief patron of the Jabir Al-Amin Memorial Council, inaugurated the daylong camp as chief guest.
Special guests at the events included Council adviser Kamal Ahmed, headmaster of Chougachha Model Secondary School; former upazila BNP General Secretary Yunus Ali Dafadar; Singhajhuli Alim Madrasa President and Janata Bank AGM Mohammad Abdullah; and Chougachha Press Club Senior Vice President Rahidul Islam Khan, among others. Local political leaders and activists, along with residents who stood in the rain, attended the inauguration.
Specialists in pediatrics, gynecology, ophthalmology and general medicine provided treatment at the daylong free medical camp. About 2,000 patients received care, and medicines were distributed at a nominal cost.
