MUMBAI — Kiran Nabagire of Maharashtra has set the world record for the fastest century in recognized women’s T20 cricket, reaching three figures in 34 balls in India’s Senior Women’s T20 Trophy on Friday. Along the way, Nabagire broke Sophie Devine’s record of a 36-ball century.
Nabagire did not stop at the record on Sept. 17. Chasing 110 against Punjab Women, she made 106 alone for Maharashtra. Her 35-ball innings included 14 fours and seven sixes.
Mukta contributed 6 off 10 balls to the unbroken second-wicket stand of 103 runs, while Nabagire dominated at the other end. She crossed three figures in 34 balls to set the world record. The previous mark was held by former New Zealand captain Sophie Devine, who hit a 36-ball century for Wellington against Otago in a domestic match in 2021.
Nabagire batted at a strike rate of 302.86. It is the first century in women’s cricket scored at a strike rate above 300.
