ALIKADAM — The final of a football tournament marking the opening of the Kurukpata Buddhist monastery in the remote area of Alikadam upazila was held successfully, organizers said. Fourteen teams from across the area took part in the tournament, which was sponsored by the Alikadam army zone.
The final was played on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 13.
The Kurukpara Youth XI won the title after a tense final, with the Kaliarchhara XI finishing as runners-up. Lt. Mohammad Murtasim Fuad, commander of the Mendonpara army camp, was the chief guest at the awards ceremony.
The army zone awarded 5,000 taka and a football to the champions and 3,000 taka and a football to the runners-up. The tournament was held in a peaceful and festive atmosphere, with a large turnout of local residents.
Organizers said sporting events of this kind would strengthen social harmony and goodwill in the hill region.
