Two killed in separate train accidents in Chattogram's Mirsharai

CHATTOGRAM — Two people were killed in two separate train accidents Saturday in two locations of Mirsharai in Chattogram, police said.

The incidents occurred Saturday afternoon and evening, Oct. 18, in the Joragonj and Bareyarhat areas.

Ashraf Siddiqui, sub-inspector and in-charge of the Sitakunda Railway Police outpost, confirmed the information.

Around 2 p.m., Khadija Begum, 55, was struck and killed on the spot by a train on the down line of the Chattogram-bound railway in the south Sonapahar area of Joragonj union in the upazila.

Local sources said Khadija was returning home from a shrine in the Sonapahar area when she was hit by the Chattogram-bound Sonar Bangla Express intercity train. She was the wife of Mohammad Hanif of Raypur village in No. 8 Durgapur union of the upazila.

Separately, around 7 p.m. the same day, an unidentified man believed to be about 25 was killed by a train near Bareyarhat College Gate in Joragonj police station area. The body was severed in the crash, making identification impossible at the time.

Railway police recovered the two bodies after the incidents.
