DHAKA — The body of a Jagannath University statistics student and Chhatra Dal leader was recovered from an alley in old Dhaka’s Armanitola on Sunday evening, police said.
Jubayed Hossain, a 15th-batch student in the statistics department and a convening committee member of the university unit of Chhatra Dal, the BNP’s student wing, was killed on his way to a tutoring session, officials said. Local residents spotted the body and alerted police.
Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bangshal police station, confirmed the death. “Jubayed Hossain has been killed by stabbing,” he said. “His tutoring residence was in that area. The cause of death has not yet been confirmed. We are investigating.”
University Proctor Mohammad Tajammul Haque said he went to the scene as soon as he heard. “Police initially suspect the death was caused by stabbing,” he said. “I have asked law enforcement to collect CCTV footage from the surrounding area, and they are trying to do so.”
