JHENAIDAH — Bimal Pramanik, who has spent 30 years immersed in cattle rearing, is today a successful farmer. The farmer from Chhaikhada village in a remote area of Kotchandpur upazila in Jhenaidah started by raising a single cow and has since become a millionaire.
By selling cattle and milk, he now owns two flat-roofed houses and has bought 6 bighas of land. The livestock department said the farmer’s success comes from having no extra cost in raising cattle. Bimal currently has 45 cattle of various sizes at his farm.
Seeing his success, many others in the area have set up small and large farms.
Bimal Pramanik said: “Every morning I take the cattle from home to the field to graze. Raising cattle is my passion. As long as I am alive, I want to keep raising cattle.”
Local residents Rais Uddin, Rina Khatun and Afzal Hossain said Bimal Pramanik became a millionaire starting from a single cow. He has made significant progress through his dependence on cattle. He bought his house and land from selling cattle.
Bimal’s daughter Chandana Biswas said: “Father married me off with the money from selling cattle. He also sent two brothers abroad.”
Bimal Pramanik’s wife Padma Rani said: “Every morning when he takes the cattle to graze, I help him to the road. He spends the whole day grazing the cattle in the field and brings them home in the evening, and I help him put them in the barn. We get 25 to 30 kg of milk from the farm every day. We sell that milk to the milkmen. I also collect and sell the dung.”
District Livestock Officer Dr. Subrata Kumar Banerjee said dairy farmer Bimal Pramanik has transformed his life through cattle rearing. The livestock department provides him with overall advice and follow-up.
