CHUADANGA — Masud Parvez, an advocate and Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for the Chuadanga-1 parliamentary seat, said he would work for the welfare of people of all faiths and communities if elected.
Speaking during a campaign walk in Ward 5 of Chuadanga municipality on Sunday, Oct. 2, Parvez, the assistant secretary of the district Jamaat unit, said the party does not engage in extortion or strong-arm politics.
“Jamaat is the only political party that can guarantee honesty,” he said. “If Jamaat comes to power, it will build a self-reliant, corruption-free welfare state.”
Parvez said he would work to enforce people’s rights and act as a public servant if elected.
“Jamaat wants to stand by the people,” he said. “Jamaat-e-Islami leaders do not want to be party-line representatives. We want to establish a culture in which public representatives are accountable to the people.”
Jamaat-e-Islami workers stood firm on the streets despite repeated assaults under Awami fascism, he said, adding that even the hanging of the party’s top leaders had failed to halt its committed cadres. No future threats will work either, he said.
Parvez urged voters to back the party’s scales symbol in the upcoming national elections. “If you vote for the scales, the people will win,” he said.
Among those present were Advocate Hasibul Islam, Jamaat-e-Islami emir of Chuadanga municipality; deputy emirs Mahbub Asik Shafi and Anwar Hossain; municipal secretary Mostafa Kamal; assistant secretary Imran Hossain; office secretary Abu Zayed Ansari; Hafez Maulana Abdus Shukur Malik, president of the municipal ulema and mosque mission; Shah Alam, president of the municipal youth wing; Asaduzzaman, municipal secretary of the labor welfare federation; office secretary Selim Ullah Masum; and other municipal leaders.
