Stop the cutting of farmland soil

The illegal cutting of soil from agricultural land is severely damaging to a country. Cutting up farmland creates deep ditches and pits on one hand, while shrinking the area of cultivable land on the other. If cultivable land continues to shrink, food shortages will grow.

The upper layer of soil is critical for cultivation. Known as topsoil, it is destroyed simply by soil excavation. This layer takes about 20 to 25 years to re-form, so soil cutting is extremely harmful. The balance of soil layers also begins to weaken, giving rise to various natural disasters.

Illegal soil cutters earn money by damaging the country’s structural foundations — an entirely prohibited activity. Those who try to stop it often face threats from locals. The government is requested to take stern action to break up the illegal soil-cutting syndicates.
