DHAKA — The three-member International Crimes Tribunal-1, led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Mozumder, will announce Thursday when it will hand down its verdict in a crimes-against-humanity case against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and two co-accused.

The case stems from killings during the July mass uprising. The tribunal’s other two members are Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.

The other two defendants are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun. Mamun has been turned approver and given a confessional statement as a state witness.

The tribunal concluded the trial Oct. 23 and set Nov. 13 as the date to announce when the verdict would be delivered, saying it would come within a short period.

Authorities have stepped up security around the tribunal compound ahead of the announcement.

Additional police will be deployed Thursday alongside the regular law enforcement detail, officials said, with army personnel, the Border Guard Bangladesh and plainclothes intelligence officers also on duty.

An intelligence officer assigned to the Supreme Court area said arrangements are in place to prevent any sabotage or disturbance at the Supreme Court and the International Crimes Tribunal premises. Security will be layered at multiple levels, the officer said.
