JASHORE — Native koi fish is disappearing from Bangladesh, and the Jashore district administration will take steps to boost its production and apply for Geographical Indication (GI) recognition for the species, district fisheries officer Manirul Islam Mamun said Tuesday.
Mamun made the remarks at a district development coordination meeting held at the Collectorate auditorium under the auspices of the Jashore district administration.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Masud Rana told the meeting that 97.30 percent of the district’s typhoid vaccination program was completed between Oct. 12 and Nov. 13.
Dr. Hussain Shafayat, superintendent of the 250-bed General Hospital, said the hospital was not receiving adequate supplies of vaccines for rabies. Treatment was continuing with whatever stocks were available, he said, and operations were ongoing.
Rafiqul Hasan, deputy director of the local government department, said mosquito populations had risen and an anti-mosquito drive had begun. If any pourashava needed services from another department, officials would respond when informed via WhatsApp, he said.
LGED Executive Engineer Ahmed Mahbubur Rahman said that before bridge construction begins, lists would be sent to each upazila nirbahi officer. Once those lists are revised and returned, they would be forwarded to the ministry. Work will start after ministry approval, but the lists have not yet been received, he said.
Roads and Highways Executive Engineer Golam Kibria said the road from Nilganj Tanti Para under the pourashava would be repaired once approval came from the ministry. Work on the Palbari-to-Monihar road repair would begin within a week, he said. Resurfacing of the Jashore-Khulna highway will also begin, for which highway police assistance is needed.
District Primary Education Officer Ashraful Alam said books for the 2026 academic year had arrived. Receipt rates for grades 1 through 5 stood at 581,256 copies, and 39,209 copies had been received for pre-primary. All books have been distributed to the upazilas.
In his concluding remarks, District Administrator Azaharul Islam said earning the love of the local people is essential, no matter where or how one works. If love is given, the rest follows. He said officials should always think of the public when carrying out their duties, often amid various crises, and that he had received the cooperation of all officials during his time in Jashore.
Police Superintendent Rownak Jahan, district agricultural officer Mosharraf Hossain, district livestock officer Siddiqur Rahman, Public Works Department Executive Engineer Jahidul Islam, and Jashore Press Club President Zahid Hasan Tukun also spoke.
The meeting was conducted by Additional District Administrator (general) Sujan Sarkar.
Public Works Department Executive Engineer Jahidul Islam, deputy director of the Department of Narcotics Control Aslam Hossain, and Fire Service assistant director Manikuzzaman were given farewell receptions with crests and flowers by the district administration.
