JASHORE — The Jashore Education Board has suspended the academic accreditation of 50 colleges that failed to enroll the required minimum number of students, board officials said.
The suspensions were issued when the colleges’ principals applied online to renew their academic accreditation. The board’s college inspector, Professor S.M. Touhiduzzaman, confirmed the action.
According to board sources, the 586 colleges under the board have a combined Class 11 capacity of 221,094 seats, of which 128,144 students enrolled. For the 2024-25 academic year, the board required a minimum of 10 students enrolled at each college. However, only 2 to 5 students enrolled at the 50 affected colleges, prompting the suspension.
Mohammad Rakibul Islam, the board’s deputy college inspector, said the 50 colleges recently applied online to renew their accreditation. “During verification of enrollment data before renewal, it was found that the colleges could not enroll students according to our conditions. For this reason, their academic accreditation has been suspended,” he said. A decision will be made later on whether to cancel their academic operations entirely, he said.
Touhiduzzaman said the board had begun taking action against colleges that failed to meet enrollment requirements. The same step will be taken after enrollment ends for the 2025-26 academic year, he said. Colleges that fall short of the requirement will face action under board rules, he said, adding that names of the affected colleges are not being released out of respect for the teachers.
