Two young men were killed in a head-on collision between a tractor and a motorcycle in Sharsha, Jashore, and another young man was injured. The incident happened at around 9am on Monday in the Salamer Mor area of Goga union in the upazila.
The dead are Nahid Islam, 35, son of Jahangir Bhandari of Sujolpur village in Jashore Sadar upazila, and Usha Rahman, 30, son of Jamat Ali of Daulatpur village under Benapole Port police station. Citing eyewitnesses, police said three young men were riding a motorcycle toward the border at around 9am on Monday when, on reaching the Salamer Mor area of the paved Rudrapur-Goga road, the motorcycle collided head-on with a brick-laden tractor coming from the opposite direction. Nahid and Usha died on the spot, while the seriously injured Rubel was rescued by locals and admitted to Jashore General Hospital for treatment. Police later recovered the bodies of Nahid and Usha and sent them to the morgue of Jashore District Hospital.
Sharsha police officer-in-charge (OC) Shaminul Haque said: “Local people seized the tractor and handed it over to police, but the driver and his helper have fled. Legal action is being taken over the incident.”
