DHAKA — The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) said it aims to put textbooks into students’ hands at the start of the new academic year, resolving uncertainties about delivery. The board said it is working under the overall direction of the Ministry of Education to meet that goal.
The information was shared in a press release issued Thursday by S.M. Asaduzzaman, the board’s public relations officer.
The release said NCTB treats the timely delivery of quality textbooks to primary and secondary students as its top priority. The board carries out continuous monitoring at every stage of textbook printing, binding, and distribution.
For the 2026 academic year, NCTB is working under the Education Ministry’s direction to ensure textbooks are printed, bound, and distributed to students on schedule. In addition to NCTB’s own oversight, an independent inspection firm and a special monitoring team from the Secondary and Higher Education Division are conducting regular field-level inspections and maintaining round-the-clock coordination with press owners.
To ensure that quality textbooks are printed, bound, and supplied at the start of the academic year, the education adviser recently met with print-establishment owners at NCTB’s auditorium. During the meeting, owners raised several concerns, which were addressed.
If the obstacles are removed, textbook printing, binding, and supply will move faster, making timely delivery possible, the release said.
At the meeting with the Education Ministry adviser, owners were assured that bills for supplied textbooks would be paid promptly. Continuous electricity supply, security arrangements for transporting and storing books, involvement of local administration, the option to collect textbooks on weekly holidays at field level, and notification of receiving officers before dispatch were among the issues discussed.
Decisions were also made on storage space requirements.
On Thursday, the secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division chaired an inter-ministerial meeting at the Education Ministry conference room. Representatives from various government and private agencies and print establishments attended.
The meeting reviewed action taken and progress on the issues raised at earlier consultations. Press owners reaffirmed that they would ensure quality textbooks are delivered at the start of the academic year, NCTB said. With coordinated cooperation from all stakeholders, the board said, it is confident textbooks will reach every student in the country on time.
