Police arrest fugitive sentenced to 14 years in Kanthalia abuse case

JHALOKATI — Police in Kanthalia upazila of Jhalokati district have arrested a fugitive sentenced to 14 years under the Prevention of Women and Children Repression Act, an officer said.

Hasan Jamadder was taken into custody in Dhaka and produced before a court on Saturday, Nov. 22.

Kanthalia police station Officer-in-Charge Mongchenla said Kanthalia police, acting on a tip, conducted an operation Friday evening in the Shah Ali area of Mirpur in Dhaka and arrested Jamadder with the help of the Rapid Action Battalion.

Jamadder, 28, is the son of Mohammad Haresh Jamadder of Dattarpashribunia village in Patikhalghata union of the upazila.

A case was filed against Jamadder at a Pirojpur court in 2011 under the Prevention of Women and Children Repression Act. In 2020, the court sentenced him to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 20,000 taka, with an additional three months of rigorous imprisonment in default. He had been on the run since then.

Mongchenla said Jamadder has been sent to court.
