CHATTOGRAM — The body of a young man, a Bangladesh Navy sailor, was recovered from a road in Hathazari on Monday morning, with police saying he was likely killed in a traffic accident.
The body was recovered from the Bardighir Par area of Chikondondi union along the Chattogram-Hathazari road. Police believe he died in a road accident.
The dead man was identified as Delwar Hossain, 29, son of Mohammad Miraj Mia of Motinnagar Chiknachhara in Bagan Bazar union of Fatikchhari. Police said Delwar was serving in the Bangladesh Navy.
Police and local residents said Delwar was found unconscious next to his motorcycle that morning in Hathazari’s Bardighir Par area. Passers-by took him to a private hospital, where the attending physician declared him dead.
Jafar Ahmad, sub-inspector at Raozan Highway Police Station, said the dead man’s head, chest and several other parts of his body were crushed. An identification card was found on him. According to the card, the deceased served as a sailor in the Bangladesh Navy.
Muhammad Ullah, officer-in-charge of Raozan Highway Police Station, said the initial assessment is that the motorcyclist died in a traffic accident, but how it happened is not yet confirmed. The body is being sent to the morgue at Chattogram Medical College Hospital for an autopsy, he said.
